Peptides are one of the fastest-growing categories in online research supply, and plenty of people want their own brand. Most of the brands you see online don't run a lab. They buy finished, tested vials from a wholesale supplier, put their own labels on them and focus on marketing and service. That model works, but it has rules. The brands that last are the ones that get compliance, testing and payments right before they spend a dollar on ads.

This guide walks through the whole process in order. It's written by NuRev Sales, a U.S. wholesale peptide supplier, so we'll point out where we can help, but the steps apply whichever supplier you choose.

Research use only vs. telehealth. Much of the legal advice online about starting a peptide company (special corporate structures, pharmacy and clinician agreements, website certification) is written for telehealth companies that sell to patients. A research-use-only brand is a different business: you sell to researchers, for laboratory use, and never for human consumption. This guide is for the research-use-only lane.

Step 1: Pick your lane

"Peptide brand" can mean very different businesses, and each one has its own rules. Decide which one you are before you build anything:

Cosmetic and skincare

Topical products such as copper peptide serums, sold under cosmetic rules. A different supply chain from research vials.

Dietary supplements

Ingestible products like collagen peptides, sold under supplement rules with their own labeling and manufacturing requirements.

Research use only (RUO)

Synthetic peptides sold strictly for laboratory and analytical research. No human-use marketing, dosing or health claims. This is the lane NuRev Sales supplies.

Clinical and telehealth

Products prescribed to patients through licensed clinicians and pharmacies. This lane carries the heavy legal work: healthcare counsel, holding-company structures, pharmacy and clinician agreements and third-party website certification. Not a lane a research supplier serves.

The rest of this guide covers the research-use-only lane. The line that matters is how you sell: research use only means no patients, no prescriptions and no human-use marketing. Mixing lanes, such as selling research vials with wellness or weight-loss language, is the most common way new brands get into trouble.

Step 2: Set up the business properly

Step 3: Choose a wholesale supplier you can verify

Your supplier is your product. A weak supplier means customer complaints, disputes and a brand that doesn't last. Before you buy, ask:

Be wary of suppliers whose COAs show 99% purity on every product. Different labs and methods can report different numbers for the same sample; we explain why in Why Peptide Purity Results Differ Between Independent Laboratories, and look at recent purity concerns in our review of Chinese peptide purity claims.

Step 4: Start small with a focused catalog

You don't need 50 products on day one. Start with a handful of compounds your audience already searches for, learn what sells, then expand. At NuRev Sales the minimum is one box of 10 vials per product, and you can choose between our U.S. partner labs, our NuRev In-House line and an import line at different price points. Volume pricing tiers apply as your monthly orders grow.

Step 5: Label and describe your products correctly

Labels and product pages are where most compliance problems start. For a research-use-only brand:

Need labels? Registered NuRev Sales clients can order custom 2x1 full-color label designs from inside the client portal, in Basic ($39), Standard ($79) and Pro ($129) packages.

Step 6: Sort out payments before you launch

This is the step new brands skip and regret. Mainstream payment platforms often let peptide sellers sign up, then freeze the account during a later review and hold funds. Line up a processor that accepts the category before you take your first order. We refer peptide businesses to high-risk processing partners for Visa and Mastercard debit, a payment gateway and chargeback alerts; see Merchant Accounts for Peptide Sellers.

Step 7: Build a store that earns trust

Step 8: Launch, ship fast and keep customers

Most chargebacks start with "where's my order?" Ship quickly, send tracking automatically and answer messages the same day. Make refunds simple. Then grow through content, email and repeat buyers rather than paid ads that may not allow the category.

Your launch checklist

  1. Lane chosen: research use only, with no human-use marketing.
  2. Company, EIN, bank account and policies in place.
  3. Supplier picked with batch COAs you've reviewed.
  4. First products ordered and labeled with compliant wording.
  5. Payment processing approved by a partner that accepts peptides.
  6. Store live with COAs, policies and contact details.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a lab or factory to start a peptide brand?

No. Most new brands buy finished, tested vials from a wholesale supplier and sell them under their own name. Your job is the brand, the website, compliance and customer service; the supplier handles production and batch testing.

How much money do I need to start?

It depends on how many products you launch with. At NuRev Sales the minimum is one box of 10 vials per product, so you can start with a small catalog and add products as you learn what sells, instead of buying large factory minimums up front.

Can I sell peptides for human use?

Not as a research-use-only brand. Research peptides must be labeled, marketed and sold for laboratory and analytical research only, with no dosing, health, weight-loss or therapeutic claims. Products sold for human use fall under drug rules and require a licensed pathway such as a pharmacy or clinician.

What should be on a research peptide label?

At minimum the compound name, amount per vial, lot or batch number, storage conditions and a clear “For research use only. Not for human consumption.” statement. Avoid dosing directions, health claims and anything that suggests the product is a drug or supplement.

Why do peptide stores get their payment accounts closed?

Mainstream processors often treat peptides as a restricted category and close accounts during a later review. Brands that plan ahead use a high-risk processing partner that underwrites peptide businesses on purpose.

Should I buy US-made or China-sourced peptides?

Both are on the market. What matters most is batch-level testing you can verify. Ask any supplier for a certificate of analysis tied to the batch you receive, and be cautious of identical 99% purity claims across every product.

Can NuRev Sales design my labels?

Yes. Registered wholesale clients can order custom 2x1 full-color label designs from inside the client portal, with Basic, Standard and Pro packages.

Is a research-use-only brand the same as a telehealth peptide company?

No. Telehealth companies sell to patients through licensed clinicians and pharmacies, which brings healthcare law, special corporate structures and website certification. A research-use-only brand sells compounds for laboratory and analytical research only, never for human consumption, so those telehealth requirements are not part of its setup.
